Add an agent to Microsoft Teams

Give a d5s agent its own Microsoft Teams app, add it to a team, and mention it in a channel to start work.

Give an agent its own app in Microsoft Teams. Your team then mentions the agent by name in a Teams channel, and the agent replies in the thread. For an overview of all chat channels, see AI agents in Slack and Microsoft Teams.

Before you start

  • You need workspace admin access to manage the agent's Teams identity.
  • An organization Owner or Admin must connect Teams for the organization one time. This connection serves all agents in the organization.
  • Your Microsoft admin may need to approve the app in Teams.
  • Save the agent in a workspace first.

Create the agent's Teams app

  1. Open the agent. Select Manage agent → Channels → Microsoft Teams.
  2. If the panel shows Connect Teams for your organization, an organization Owner or Admin selects it. Microsoft asks for approval. After approval, d5s opens the panel again.
  3. Select Create @Agent in Teams. The button shows your agent's name. Creation takes about a minute. You can close the panel while it continues.

The panel then shows four steps: create the Teams app, add it to a team, approve if Microsoft asks, and try a mention.

Add the agent to a team

  1. Select Open in Teams.
  2. In Teams, select Add to a team and choose the team.
  3. If Teams asks for admin approval, ask your Microsoft admin to approve the app. The panel updates after approval.
  4. In a channel of that team, send @Agent hello.

The channel appears under Channel conversations in the panel. Activate the channel for this agent. The agent replies in the thread.

One agent can work in many channels. Different agents can share one channel.

Work with the agent in Teams

  • Mention the agent to start a task. The agent replies in the thread.
  • A status card shows the progress of the task. Select Stop on the card to stop the task.
  • When an action needs approval, the card shows the choices Allow once, Allow for this run, and Deny.
  • Turn on Follow replies to let the agent answer replies in its threads without a new mention. This needs a Microsoft permission. If the panel shows Upgrade permissions, select Check status first. If the upgrade is still necessary, select Upgrade permissions and approve in Teams.

The agent works only in standard team channels. It does not work in Teams direct messages, private channels, or shared channels. It does not send or receive files in Teams.

Keep the identity up to date

  • Sync profile publishes the agent's current name and avatar to Teams. A team that already has the app may need to update it in Teams.
  • When the panel shows The Teams key expires soon, select Renew now. You do not need to enter a secret.
  • Remove channel stops the agent in that channel.
  • Disconnect stops the agent's Teams identity. d5s keeps the conversation history.

Use the shared d5s app

You can use one shared d5s app for all agents instead of one app for each agent. Select Use the shared d5s app instead. An organization Owner or Admin selects Connect Microsoft Teams and approves the Microsoft consent screen. Then select Download app package, upload the package in Teams, and add d5s to a team. Mention @d5s one time in each channel to make the channel available to agents.

If something goes wrong

  • Microsoft did not respond in time: nothing was lost. Select Retry. If this occurs again, ask your Microsoft admin if app creation is allowed.
  • Microsoft blocked this step: ask your Microsoft admin to allow app creation for d5s, then select Retry.
  • Not connected after creation: the app is not installed in a team yet. Select Open in Teams and add it to a team.
  • The agent does not reply in a thread: mention the agent again, or turn on Follow replies.
